Given that this poll was taken before the Summer of the Teabag, I think it’s interesting that while support of reform overall is now more or less split 50/50 (either for or against, depending on the poll), support for the public option remains in the 60% range.

In the past, I would have said unequivocally no, the Democrats are not capable of ANY type of organization. However, given the way Obama managed to whip his campaign into shape, I’m not so sure. The Democrats may actually fail in their attempts to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this time.

Your question begs another–is the Democratic Party even capable of that kind of organization? I say that with no small amount of sorrow as a longtime Democratic precinct chair and as someone who’s voted for every Democratic presidential candidate since Jimmy Carter (and would have voted for McGovern if I’d been six weeks older). Has there ever been a more feckless pair of legislative leaders than Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid?

Oh yeah, I didn’t mean to imply that it would all be as simple as just transferring the capital and human resources from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

I think the sooner that we, as a country, figure out that not every single problem in the world can and should be met with an American solution, the better off we (and the rest of the world, for that matter) will ultimately be.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with free speech. Jeh Johnson serves “at the pleasure of the President.” If he is not reflecting the president’s policies, he should be fired. If he is, then that says pretty horrific things about Obama. Nobody has a Constitutional right to keep their job AND disagree with the boss.

Hi,
I just wandered onto your blog while looking for pictures of bread (for a presentation) and I felt compelled to make a comment on this post. It seems that you have a very low regard for freedom of speech which is a basic human right. Even if we disagree with someone’s viewpoint, such as the ludicrous idea that those acquitted of a crime can still be imprisoned, does this mean we should silence opposing ideas through the denial of a basic human right such as free speech? If the president could simply shut up anyone he didn’t agree with, wouldn’t we be heading towards an autocratic dictatorship? It seems that there are people on both sides that are willing to sacrifice their freedom for their cause but in the end its going to bite you in the buttocks.
