The Cultural Buffet Line

Far be it from me to criticize how anyone else raises their kids, but given that neither Sandra Bullock nor (evidently) her new son are Jewish, having a Bris Ceremony for him strikes me as sadly typical of the attitude of many whites: namely, that the culture and religion of other people are there for them like some sort of Whitman Sampler.  Whites longing for spiritual fulfillment feel entitled to adopt whatever ceremony or belief strikes their fancy at the moment.  Kabbalah, sweat lodges, vision quests and any other celebrity fad are taken up and discarded like the new fall line, irrespective of the feelings of actual practitioners or those for whom these acts are not make-believe but the sincerely held beliefs of millennia.
