Great Moments In Religious Freedom

Patriotic Christian horribly oppressed by evil Muslim student wielding Al Jazeera camera.

So, the new definition of “Religious Freedom” is the “freedom” not to be asked why you are a bigoted asshole…

Insert Your Own George W. Bush Library Joke Here

  1. Revisionist history zone;
  2. Ignoble moments in Dubya History;
  3. And don’t let the doorknob hit you in the ass on your way out.

It is, of course, easy to joke about Dubya. Hard for me to join in the laughter, however; between a war based on lies in Iraq, screwing up the war in Afghanistan and damn near destroying the Constitution and the American economy, I can’t really work up a chuckle. About the only good thing you can say for him is that he has made the Republican brand so unbelievably toxic that he may have condemned them to perpetual minority status. You can’t really evaluate a president until he’s been out of office awhile, at least ten years in my estimation. My guess, though, is that in the end Dubya will give that old bastard Nixon a run for his money as the worst president in history.

Constitution Accidentally Upheld

Judge Katherine B. Forrest has blocked implementation of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which allows American citizens to be arrested on American soil and locked up forever without charge.  Rather despicably, the Obama Justice Department continues to support this un-American police-state legislation.  Mark Greenwald offered a more in-depth discussion following her initial, preliminary injunction last month.  It was bad enough that Obama broke his promise to veto this godawful bill, his pinky-promise not to abuse it notwithstanding; continuing to push for the kind of power that normally only roils in the fevered dreams of Dick Cheney is really beyond the pale.  Why, exactly, did we vote for this guy again?

Great Moments in Stupidity

Remember the War in Iraq?  Remember how it was supposed to be about WMD’s that later turned out to not exist?  Well, turns out that for the last couple of years, the US has been spending a relatively small amount of money to keep track of WMD’s in the former Soviet Union, to prevent them from falling into the hands of terrorists, a very real threat given the shaky state of the Russian military since the fall of communism.  Sound like a good use of money?  Not to Cong. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) who introduced an amendment last month to cut off this funding.  Here’s a list of all the morons in the House who voted FOR the invasion of Iraq in October of 2002 to find pretend WMD’s but voted AGAINST a mechanism to keep REAL WMD’s out of the hands of terrorists.  It will not surprise you to learn that many of these morons are from Texas.

Why Does the NRA Hate America?

Terrorists are being urged to use the gun show loophole to buy guns to kill Americans with.  So why is the NRA supporting terrorism?

Works For Me

Personally, I would’ve rather seen the sonovabitch taken alive, tried in Federal District Court in Lower Manhattan, convicted, and locked away for the rest of his miserable existence in a supermax somewhere, forgotten to history rather than give him the martyrdom he craved.  Still, this works fine, too.

Credit Where Credit Is Due

Amidst all the hyperventilating over Cordoba House, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) shows considerable political courage by defending the First Amendment rights of American Muslims.  I can’t help but wonder if this has something to do with the fact that Mormons know first hand what happens when bigoted lynch mobs are allowed to influence government policy and determine whose religion is “right.”  If so, Harry Reid should listen to his colleague and man up.

Stomach Churning, Part III

Those morons in the last post? They are officially less tolerant than HEZBOLLAH!

Also, thanks for doing Al Qaeda’s recruiting for them, you assholes.  Why not just throw a bake sale for Osama bin Laden next?

Lastly, FOX “News” is run by terrorists.

Stomach Churning, Part II

The carefully-fanned rage at Cordoba House has NOTHING to do with religious bigotry. Or racism. Also, Glenn Beck? A rock of sanity and stability.
